Despite being one of the largest and fastest-growing coffee producers in the world, Vietnam does not often find its coffees on the shelves of western specialty shops these days. The majority of Vietnamese coffee exports are mostly of the robusta variety, which sacrifices quality for higher yields and disease-resistance.
However, as the world increasingly appreciates higher-quality coffees, more and more Vietnamese producers are growing arabica varieties and implementing modern farming and processing techniques. While these come at a higher cost, they also fetch higher prices when done well. The Mercafe Lotus Farm Cluster does this very well.
Located in Cau Dat, a high-altitude coffee-growing region in central to southwestern Vietnam with volcanic soil and year-round cool weather, Lotus produces some of the finest coffees Vietnam has to offer. The cooperative provides agronomic assistance to its member farmers, invests in state-of-the-art processing techniques, and stores the export-ready coffee carefully in climate-controlled environments.
As a result of all of Lotus’s innovation and care, this delightful coffee has a pleasant acidity reminiscent of apricot, a dark chocolate-like silky body, and notes of hazelnut and nougat.
