Out of 75 coffees from Sumatra, the Sumatra, Lintong achieved the highest rating, with a score of 95, in a cupping of coffees from Sumatra for Coffee Review’s April 2019 tasting report.
In Coffee Reviews blind assessments they found this coffee to be, ”Simultaneously citrusy and floral, yet deeply resonant and tobacco-toned. Cocoa, pink grapefruit zest, perique (fermented) tobacco, sandalwood, aromatic orchid in aroma and cup. Sweetly and exhilaratingly tart in structure; light, juicy mouthfeel. Grapefruit, sandalwood and flowers carry gracefully into a long, layered finish”.
The Lintong comes from a region near South Lake Toba in Sumatra. At 1,400 to 1,550 masl, this region has the highest coffee-growing altitudes in North Sumatra. We purchase this coffee from Olam Specialty Coffee who works with six collectors that buy coffee directly from small farmers and in weekly village markets. The collectors wet hull the coffee at 28-32% moisture and then dry it in greenhouses. Once around 11-12% moisture, they run the coffee over densimetric tables before sending it to Medan for hand sorting.
